Vinyl Records:
Reflective Statement
Official Artifact Name: Format Project - Vinyl Records
Course for which the Artifact was Developed: LI 827 Preservation Strategies with Kris Kern
SLIM Program Outcome: PO4
Preservation Strategies serves to introduce the student to the concerns of the preservation of library materials. The student learns about the history of library materials, what causes them to fail, and how to approach conservation, preservation, and prevention.
This was another course with a strong practical bent. Little theory formed the basis for the course, with much more involvement in scientifically determined best practices and professional knowledge.
This artifact is a website developed with fellow student Tiffany Newton. It is an online fact sheet gathering resources and presenting them clearly and easily to others regarding preservation concerns about the vinyl record format.
In developing this artifact, it was necessary to research the topic, then apply what I had learned through the medium of a website. I helped make decisions regarding the appearance, ease of access, and how content was included.
Creating and posting a website that is easy to use, pleasant to look at, and informative is a clear example of Program Outcome 4. Information resources were located, identified, repackaged, and delivered through the internet to anyone interested in the issues relating to the vinyl record format.
