Three Reasons for Public Librarianship
This paper has been included as an artifact demonstrating Professional Outcome 1: Foundations of the Profession since it articulates a particular philosophy of service to a specific segment of the library world. I believe in the continued relevance of public libraries and that they have much to do in the coming years to support our communities and our nation.
Human-Computer Interaction
I included this presentation as an artifact representing Professional Outcome 2: Information Resources. In its original form, this presentation allowed for non-linear progression through information on a variety of subjects, each with multiple options for different learning styles. The assignment focused on group generation of topics to research and present back to the group. I was given specific information needs, and followed through with a presentation delivering multiple resources and types of resources in different ways for different people.
Organizing Magic Cards
This artifact represents Professional Outcome 3: Organization of Recorded Knowledge and Information. It is a presentation which expresses the many ways in which cards of a hobby of mine, Magic: The Gathering, a Collectible Card Game, can be organized and why each organization might be selected.
Vinyl Records
This website, created jointly with Tiffany Newton, serves as an example of Professional Outcome 4: Technological Knowledge and Skills. Information about an older, but still in use, technological format is gathered, repackaged, and delivered in an easy to use and visually pleasing modern technological format.
Entrepreneurship in Manhattan, Kansas
This website demonstrates Professional Outcome 5: Reference and User Services. Created for the Reference and User Services course, it exists as a freely available, freely accessible guide to specific resources on entrepreneurship available through the Manhattan Public Library. Not only does it exist for independent use, parts of this online pathfinder have been adapted and posted on the Manhattan Public Library website.
Program Awareness Survey
This group project by Jason Hibbs, Jessica Raburn, Shelby Schellenger, Emily Schwarze and Sara Worcester sought to develop a research survey to determine awareness of library programs in communities of a designated size in Kansas... Matching well Program Outcome 6: Research. A research problem was determined, an effective method for research was selected, literature of the field was reviewed, and a tool was developed.
K.L.A. Fundraising Presentation
This artifact represents Program Outcome 7: Continuing Education and Lifelong Learning. The presentation was created through collaboration of myself in my duties as a Graduate Research Assistant and Andrew Smith, the faculty member I worked with at the time. We presented at the Kansas Library Association Conference 2012. This demonstrates a dedication to ongoing education outside of my formal education program and eager participation in disseminating information to others. Slides of the presentation are also linked from the Conference website.
Academic Library Technology Plan
This group project by Eric Coulbourne, Jayme Johnson, Amanda McCoy, Shelby Schellenger, and Sara Worcester serves as an artifact of Professional Outcome 8: Administration and Management. It demonstrates effective "collaboration, communication, and collegiality" among group members to accomplish tasks in a timely and beneficial manner.
