Program Outcomes and Professional Values
Listed below are my reflections upon what these outcomes and values mean to me and how I will strive to meet them in my professional life.
Program Outcomes
- Foundations of the Profession : Articulate a philosophy of ethical and client-centered information services for the library and information professions. I am true to the roots of the profession, the ethical guidance of the Library Bill of Rights and my history as an Eagle Scout, and the needs of my clients. I am able to discuss what it means to be a library or information professional.
- Information Resources: Explain and implement the development, maintenance, and management of collections and resources to meet specific information needs. I am able to analyze and determine information needs, then use these needs to collect, organize, and perform upkeep on collections of resources. I am able to explain to others what I am doing, how I am doing it, and why.
- Organization of Recorded Knowledge and Information: Explain, use, maintain, and develop systems to organize and retrieve recorded knowledge. I am able to collect, organize, and perform upkeep on systems of recorded knowledge. I am comfortable explaining what, how, and why.
- Technological Knowledge and Skills: Employ current and emerging technologies effectively for communication, and to search for, identify, repackage, and deliver information resources. I use technology, new and old, for effective communication and to carry out functions related to information resources.
- Reference and User Services: Retrieve, evaluate, and synthesize information resources to fulfill an information needs assessment; evaluate the usefulness of these resources to the user. I am able to effectively use information resources to meet a client's negotiated needs and assess the effectiveness of my use for the client.
- Research: Evaluate, critique, and discuss new research in the field; assess library or information problems and identify an appropriate research method. I am able to review a situation and find an effective way of discovering the answer. I locate, read, and discuss research and other current trends of thought in the library and information professions with my colleagues and clients.
- Continuing Education and Lifelong Learning: Demonstrate a commitment to lifelong learning by participating in professional development activities and disseminating new information to colleagues and patrons. I attend conferences, webinars, read literature of the profession, and participate in professional organizations in order to keep myself involved and growing in the profession. I will share my knowledge and expertise with those around me.
- Administration and Management: Aid in effective and appropriate change in library and information services through collaboration, communication, and collegiality. I am able to seek positive change through effective relationship building with professional and community stakeholders.
Professional Values
- Service: Commit to quality client-centered services, advocate for equity and value diversity in its many forms. I have committed to serving my clients, striving for equity, and appreciation of diversity.
- Leadership: Demonstrate leadership potential, with creativity in problem solving and openness to new ideas. I have taken a lead role in scholastic projects and in professional experience. I believe that effective leadership includes creativity and active participation in a group setting.
- Integrity: Exhibit ethical behavior, knowledge, and attitudes. I strive to express ethical stances in all of my life activities.
- Mentorship: Guide and teach current and future clients and information professionals to ensure the continued growth of the field. I aspire to give back to the profession the positive experiences I have had.
